The day was clear and bright, the sun shining stunningly over the grand trees. This day marked a new beginning for a particular fourteen-year-old. This day he began a voyage into the world of teenagers: the first day of high school. All ready there were visions of a girlfriend, upper-classmen friends, and cheerleaders. He knew for sure that high school would be life changing; certainly, this would be a day to remember.
?Ouch! Watch where you?re going dumb-ass!? An older classmate cried with a vengeance. The freshman culprit stared at the senior with wide eyes, too surprised to apologize. The seniors hand rose, but any intention abruptly stopped by the coming of the hall monitor. The look in the senior?s eyes, however, stated that their fight was far from over.
The freshman looked at the retreating figure and sighed. Well, it looked like things weren?t going well as he had thought. All ready, he had three hours of homework, he?d tripped over his pants, which were far too large, at least 10 times, and now he?d lost his chance of getting accepted by them. Looking around himself, he began to feel vulnerable. The stares he was getting weren?t good ones: it because obvious that he was too young to be cool in their eyes. They seemed almost like vultures. Being younger wasn?t as easy as he?d thought. Everyone tried his or her hand at taking advantage of the seemingly weak.
Running a hand through his slicked-back raven hair, the boy pressed on, feeling his control and self-esteem start to slip. Running through the hallways, he moved toward the sanctuary of his next classroom. Never before this year had he ever felt good about being around teachers.
When the lunch bell rang, he stepped out warily. Looking like a deer staring at an on-coming train. It seemed obvious when he stepped out that others were annoyed by his presence.
?My god! Look, it?s another dorky freshman, Jenny. We were so much more mature our freshman year weren?t we? These new ones are so childish!?
The sophomore seemed to agree with her friend?s
analogy. ?I know!? she exclaimed, ?What dorks they are!?
The freshman had met her gaze, and felt his shoulders sink. They were all the same. Shaking his head he moved to
the cafeteria where he would hope to find some other freshman.
An angry cry came from a senior as a freshman bumps into him. ?You again!? The enraged look in the dark auburn eyes sent chills down the freshman?s spine. When he did finally manage to mutter an apology, he was catapulted through the air into the garbage can.
The year passed, and now the new sophomore
with slicked back raven hair looked at the new freshman before him.
Angered that some lower-classman had just dared to get in his path.
In one sweeping motion, he scooped the fourteen-year-old up and threw him
into the garbage. And so, another is bullied?
