In the shadows stands a lost girl,
So easy to overlook.
She?s quiet, yet has things to offer
If one would take a look.
The existence seems pitiful,
Seeing them, yet no one seeing her.
Like everyone, she strives for attention
But will not bounce off the walls.
For she realizes that attention from true friends
Is more precious than any other.
False friendships is not what she looks for;
Being more cautious than those around her.
Is it so bad to be silent? She wonders,
So bad to try to draw those to her by acting
like herself?
Not often will she voice her opinion,
Nor will she try to be aggressive.
Taking in to account that others have feelings
Leads her into self-doubt.
Was she worthy of attention,
or were people better off not knowing her?
She becomes more and more restless within this
cage,
Too scared to loose control
And too reserved to talk of dreams.
So easily is she overshadowed that she begins
to grow angry,
Thinking that truly, no one gave a damn.
Not the most lively of the bunch,
But certainly a unique personality,
She strives in looking for someone who could
understand.
She is a person,
But no one seems to care.
To them, she?s only a figure in the shadows.
What?s more is that
She lets herself waste away within her own prison.
Few will truly know her,
Even less will understand.
Yet the life that she lives is her own choice,
Because she refuses to live a lie.
No masks will be worn to draw others to her,
No games of pretend.
She is neither loquacious, nor hyper;
Simply a silent girl waiting for understanding.
Here she is now, standing in the corner,
Waiting for someone who will care.
She chooses her friends quite carefully,
But longs to let people in.
The question now remains,
When you see this person
Will you walk past her through the halls
Without a second thought,
Or will you bother to say hello?
